Isogeometric analysis (IGA) in Blender

Is there any interest to integrate G+Smo (https://github.com/gismo/gismo) with Blender?
What's IGA?

  • That is a fascinating video, and I wish I was more qualified to understand and appreciate what looks like a lot of very clever work!

My only comment would be that when watching the video I didn't see a description of how subdivision meshes relate. The examples seem to revolve around curves, of which Blender has very poor support. That said, in Sverchok, it is possible to model with curves accurately, so maybe some sort of work with Sverchok is the way to go if any work is to be done in this area.

  • Sverchok uses my friend's solution, geomdl (https://pypi.org/project/geomdl) and he was the first one who introduced me to IGA.
If you think Blender is very poor in curve and surface, which really is, there're other options, for instance, if Sverchok uses geomdl then Blender can too
Also, the other option is volumetric data/rendering, like voxelization. I mean Blender if is poor we can use it as just an interface, and do its modeling part out of Blender, maybe!

  • I'm gonna live this link here. Some people have worked on implementing IGA in Code_Aster but not sure if the code will be available

@ReD_CoDE : you see that it's not necessarily all about creating new tools from scratch, for this case Code_Aster can perfectly serve as the core component with a non-invasive implementation
