Does anyone know what 'Alt-D' does?

  • Decomposition in IFC is when something larger is composed of smaller pieces. The most common example which is relevant to geometric editing is when a wall has openings voiding it, and openings have windows filling it. This toggles parenting, allow you to link the locations of the smaller pieces to the larger pieces.

    Now that all the IFC jargon is out of the way, here's a Revit-based description: Decomposition mode toggles whether or not hosted elements (i.e. windows / opening) move with the host (i.e. wall).
