Step Import in Bonsai?

I lately had to export step files a few times and had to use other software (Freecad for example) or reimport the step files in Vectorworks, in order to check the export quality.
Just thought, that implementing a step-import functionality in Bonsai could be a low hanging fruit, considering the fact, that ifc-files are enhanced Step-Files as well (as far as I know).

  • I've looked into this a few years ago and it is apparently not nearly as easy as it sounds in theory. If I remember correctly the file structure is the same, but geometry structure isn't (and that's the hard part).

AFAIK the problem is that Blender has really limited functionality to support curve based geometries (in comparison to other dedicated softwares). There is an addon you can try but it will most likely make your geometry count soar when importing your models, and you won't be able to roundtrip them. • ah ok, that's a pity.
    Was just an idea...
