Using Geometry nodes for Residential HVAC

Greetings everyone,
Been Lurking for a while, but I'm a Long time Blender user and Full time HVAC Designer. I think I can Provide Geometry Node solutions for Parametric Design. Unfortunately, I've come to understand Bonsai IFC Files doesn't save modifiers. Now, I am very new to Bonsai & Sverchok. So, My question to you, is what is the Most stable bonsai & Blender build that is compatible to Sverchok? and can Sverchok still use blender geometry nodes?

  • Hi @ppesquera
I'll leave answering your query to more experienced users, but I'd love to know more about your workflow. I'm going to attempt to use Blender for drawings of MEP systems (mostly pipework) - but you probably have some excellent pointers.
Are you able to size your ducts/pipes using geo nodes? Perhaps using curves to define routes, then geo nodes to add your fittings? Maybe you attach fixtures to vertices on the curves?
Do you tag your fixtures with a link to Custom Properties?
For drawings, do you do them in Blender? If yes, do you separate your dims onto different Scenes - then Composite them with your final Sheet/Border?

    To Answer your your questions:

    • I am able to Size my Ducts/ Pipes based on extruded vertices. The "mesh to curve node", "Fillet Curve Node" & "Curve to Mesh Node" allows me to have control over the bend radius, Routing, Insulation Thickness, and Duct diameter. I was also able to create a Proceedural Shader that maps the Texture onto the Geo node duct in real time.
    • Yes, I can create custom properties built into the modifier for easy access.
    • I could attach fixtures onto my curves thanks to "Instance on Points Node"
    • for drawings I convert my 3d models into 2D with Archipack, then Export to Autocad Lt as a .dxf file. Bonsai's Sheet Generator feels too tedious compared to Autocad. I hope that might change in the future.

  • Sverchok can handle GN and has special node to work with GN. You can create pipes easily.
