Connecting BlenderBIM to carbon data at BuildingTransparency.org via their API

Hi all...we are seeing massive interest in Whole Life Carbon assessments of buildings and how to do it at the design stage. To do it requires adding data from Environmental Product Displays (EPDs) to materials and products. This can be done in Revit using TallyCAT (https://www.buildingtransparency.org/tally/tallycat/ ) but it would be great to see a free OS approach so it can be done more widely.
There was a thread here about bringing OpenLCA into BlenderBIM but I think the EC3 tool would be much more useful as it draws on product level data (the EPDs) to sum up a building. The API for EC3 is at https://buildingtransparency.org/ec3/manage-apps/api-doc/api#/
Any programmers out there interested in helping develop this? I don't have a programming background so am stuck! Thanks

  • @StephenBarrett I too would like to see this happen. Is this worthy of a 'Project' in OSArch - Open Source in AEC's projects funding scheme? I would be happy to start with 10 Beers* investment if this is an option. *Beer is the typical value of a beer at a pub in one's own currency in one's own country, aimed at making contributions relative across various currencies/economies.

I think it is very worthy - there will be EU regulation in this area in the coming years. It's part of the update of the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive currently in negotiation. Soe countries (Denmark, France, Netherlands, Finland) already have some requirements in place and the demand for this kind of analysis is only growing...and I would happily pay 10 beers too!

  • Hi @Moult do you think a Project can be set up for this? I don't know how this funding model works and what is usually done to manage specific projects. I do appreciate that everyone is busy so I thought a little cash insentive may help

  • @Nigel The following might be a mechanism to drum up funding for this project you're proposing...
