[Blender BIM] IFC cloud hosting, viewer, analysis?

edited March 15 in General

Hi All,
Im currently investigating how Blender BIM can be applied in the field of MEP Design. So far the tools available for modelling and editing MEP systems are still too limited to be a viable replacement for [insert closed source BIM software] but I definitely see ways it can be used for model checking and analysis.

Something that would make it much more accessible to non-users within a project team would be a web based host and viewer for the files, (Similar to BIM360 or Assemble). Has anyone found/tried open platforms for hosting, saving, and linking IFC files so they can be viewed in a browser?
A quick search turned up this: https://ifcwebserver.org/ which I will try out.

Ive also heard of experiments with hosting IFC files on GIT to push and pull changes in a single model with multiple users (Like Synchronising). I could live with a single model per user (I think it adds discipline and coordination) but any experience with that would also be interesting to hear.

  • https://speckle.systems/ comes to my mind
I haven't been testing it yet, but i saw a demo and it looks good and it is open source

  • Speckle is awesome if you want something quick just to view in the web a 3d model sent from an AEC software.
But to browse an IFC and its metadata in a webbrowser you should definetely take a look at ThatOpen (called before IFC.js). In a few line of js code and with premade tools you can have an awesome personnalized IFC viewer and play with the metadata. Plus, the open documentation is becomimg really good. I've been trying it recently to update code.

  • Thanks I will check it out
