FreeCAD 1.0 - models for splashscreen request

edited August 2024 in General

Hi there !
Hope you are all having a great summer (or winter) time !
As you may be aware, the famous version 1.0 of FreeCAD is soon to be released ! =D

To prepare the Release Candidate, the Design Group (a team of developers, designers and users focusing on the user experience, interaction and interface of FreeCAD) is organizing a selection of models to be showcased on the splashscreens of the future version, as below :

The several illustrations will be presented at each launch in a random fashion.

To showcase the capabilities of FreeCAD for the built environment field, we are seeking your contributions and would be pleased to feature 2-3 models provided by the OS-Arch community too ! Whether it's a recent or old project, an infrastructure one, heritage conservation, landscape, building services, energy analysis, construction details or else, we welcome all proposals ! We're looking for projects other than those already illustrated here.

A representative illustration of the model is requested, taken from the FreeCAD interface. Up to you to choose the most advantageous representation mode (solid, shadows, transparent, etc.), angle, colors, etc. to best highlight the project.

Please just observe a few simple rules :

  • the model must be produced mainly in FreeCAD. Some back and forth with Bonsai/BlenderBIM is acceptable I suppose =P
  • you must be the author or part of the author team, and have the explicit rights for distribution with an open license (e.g. CC-BY-SA). Please indicate how you want it to be credited and attributed (name). It must not have proprietary content (please remove it beforehand).
  • ideally, the model should be sent as an FCStd file. IFC are accepted too. The image can any quality file format, or even not provided (in this case we'll take the view at opening, or may tweak a few aspects with your permission).

What do you gain from this ?
Recognition for contributing to FreeCAD and the wider OS-Arch community. An opportunity to promote your work to the thousands (millions?) of FreeCAD users. =D

Ideally, submissions are open until mid-September. After that, it may be too late for the final Release.

Thank you very much ! If you need any clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
