OpeningDesign's Open Source Revit Template

edited December 2020 in General

This thread will be dedicated to various updates associated with OpeningDesign's Revit template, which is hosted here: https://gitlab.com/openingdesign/OD_Library/-/tree/master/BIM

As you can see, we approach our small scale details a little different, in that, they are modeled in 3D instead of 2D (which, surprisingly, is still a very common practice, even in the BIM world).

There are a number of reasons for this, but the main one is that since these details are modeled with simple extrusions and material assignments they can be roundtripped relatively easy via IFC.

It's a small attempt at creating an agnostic library of content that can be roundtripped to other platforms.
As you know, there's a long way to go to fully realize robust roundtripping, but even with a small subset of the IFC schema being roundtripped, there's discernable benefits.

To apply this approach on a practical level, @yorik and I started a company called OpeningDETAIL.com that looks to help architects/engineers model their small scale details.

That is, in our past projects, we roundtrip between and FreeCAD and Revit, and provide the ultimate Revit file to the client. Also, with it's current IFC advancements, BlenderBIM can also used in this workflow as well.
...
In general this template is always changing with every project OpeningDesign and OpeningDETAIL.com work on. We would also love other architects to use this template as well. If you do, and have improvements, please send us a pull request via Gitlab, or provide a feature request on the issue tracker here.

All the Best, Ryan
