IfcProducts without geometry

For a specific usecase I need to create an IFC file with Building elements (mainly rooms, doors and windows to start with, followed by hvac and electric systems) , their (approximate) location but without a definite geometric representation. Can I do this with BlenderBIM? Or do I need to define a bounding box at least?

Comments

  • Yes, in the BlenderBIM Add-on, there is absolutely no requirement to generate geometry. Just create an empty object instead of a mesh or other geometry object, and then continue to treat it as any IFC object.

However, this workflow has not been tested much, so perhaps there are details which we have not considered, like whether no geometry also means no object placement, and we don't ban you from still applying material set usages, which is illegal in this context.
