Hello everybody, i think that create a Telegram channel/group could be usefull for everybody to send blog news published on the website. What do you think?
Thank's @Cyril , i'll try. Btw, i mentioned Telegram because it's a popular messaging service and i thought i was more secure than other services...now i've known the services u have mentioned, i'll try them! Thanks again.
I think we should send promotional content in lots of channels - but keep discussions in just a few. Otherwise we start standing alone outside different houses instead of meeting at the pub. (There are too many almost dead forums out there)
@duncan what i was thinking is a Telegram channel, where people can subscribe and receive the blog news. It's different from a chat because people only receive the news and can't answer. I think it's a popular way to promote the news. Many sites that i follow use this kind of promoting method.
@Massimo I completely agree that more promotional content in more channels is a good idea! Go for it! However, it should be made clear that it is not the preferred live chat channel, so as not to split the community.
@Moult I would create a channel/broadcast that is a "one to all" communication channel.
It's not a chat so it doesn't modify the actual way of chatting. Here an example https://t.me/OSArchOrg
I put only last 3 news but of course it should be automated.
I think we should prioritize the biggest platforms and ones that federate content. Starting a distribution channel that requires manual maintenance it "dangerous" in that it can become peoples only source of information and suddenly go silent if the original maintainer stops posting. Sooooo - who can make it automated?
@duncan what about if i connect the rss feed (see this post https://community.osarch.org/discussion/842/an-rss-foss-newswire) with the telegram channel?
In this way, every time there is a new post in this rss feed, there will be a message in the telegram channel.
There is (in theory) a telegram bot to do this, i could try.

You can currently already join livechat throught IRC or matrix (I use Element client).

(underlined question : why telegram ? Telegram is not FLOSS on serverside)

@Massimo you can subscribe to news via https://osarch.org/ in the sidebar using your email. There is also a few RSS feeds. Hopefully it helps.
@Moult thanks, i was only thinking it could be usefull for people in general. More communication channel means more publicity (my opinion).

@Moult are you that one IRC guy? Maybe.
@Massimo we need to record and share the passwords for that channel so we don't lose control of it. Please get in touch.
@duncan ok, i'm available if you need help. Btw it is simply a telegram channel

That would be perfect!

@tetov what's the rss feed for our newswire from the front page? Can we add a link to it at the bottom of the main wordpress site?
@duncan i've done the bridge between feeds rss and the telegram channel. All info are available in the wiki page (https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Outreach#Telegram)
@Massimo fantastic, thanks
... it's actually a really good way of getting an updated list of new threads on the forum!
Yes, i agree with you :-)
