Companies adopting IFC technologies?

edited October 2024 in General

I came across Dion's comment the other day where he mentioned large AEC companies adopting IFC/Bonsai in their workflow - could anyone confirm specific companies that you might seen on seminars, social media or word of mount? I haven't seen one personally yet and am on a look out to find one or a few.

  • In the Spanish public administrations, we are strongly advocating for models to be delivered exclusively in IFC format. Yes, we take this matter very seriously.
That's why the BIM manual we use for our projects is focused on IFC. In fact, Annex 12 of the manual specifically addresses this format, and with it, we aim to:

    • Provide the construction sector in Spain with a clear technical foundation to understand what IFC is and why it is useful.
    • Support the definition of requirements related to the use of IFC in projects.
    • Promote the use of the IFC standard and explain why ETS adopts it.
    • Offer examples to facilitate the understanding of the IFC schema and .ifc files.
    • Show that programming skills aren't necessary to use it: anyone with some training in IFC file visualization tools can review BIM models without expensive software, just by using available free tools.
In this context, we have created a short manual on Blender/Bonsai. We believe it is useful to incorporate it into the BIM workflow, and we want to spread the word, as one of the biggest hurdles to using these tools is simply not knowing how.
Attached is a post in case you're interested in learning more.
