Opening (window/door) through multiple elements and aggregates

Hi there,
I have been searching the forum for an answear to my question, but have not been able to replicate the results from the different answers I have found.

I am trying to apply an opening (doors and windows) to 2 elements: a wall, representing my core load-bering wall element, and a covering, representing the outer insulation. I have tried the 'aggregate' method, but it does not work every time. And moreover, I cannot seem to make it work when I move the window, the opening won't update even after recalculating the geometry of the elements.

There is then the problem of how can I edit (move) only one element after making an aggregate.

I have tried following the videos I found on this forum, but it is difficult because the UI looks different from what I have. See image I found on github: I don't have that command "Apply opening" -https://community.osarch.org/uploads/editor/zx/tqess3m9v5ul.png

Is there any documentation on all Bonsai commands? Or in-depth video tutorials?

Please, would be very thankful for your help. I am running version 0.8.3 of Bonsai.

Hi @Darwuhr try to update your version (or use the version of the tutorial).
    https://github.com/ifcopenshell/ifcopenshell
Rightside "latest version". Iˋm hopeful this will solve your issue.
A good way is to use 2 Blenderinstallations with different bonsaiversions (current and stable)

  • Make sure the window is not 'in' the aggregate the void is applied to, because it would be voiding itself, essentially.
    ...
Also, when regening, regen the window, not the walls.
    ...
these are good tutorials, but i'm probably bias. :)

  • @theoryshaw thank you for pointing me to your tutorials! Does buying the access to them include future tutorials too?

I saw it covers the basics, as Bonsai UI explanations and similar, right? I have been working with Archicad since I started working in this field (mostly structural and civil engineering, but have mastered architectural modeling and drafting since I grasped the program pretty well), but it has been mostly 3D modeling because this is what most architects in my area think BIM is. Trying now Blender and Bonsai, I have found a completely different world with a different approach both to modeling and information. The most difficult part is understanding the new UI and how the program works, so this is something I am looking forward to.

And for someone that has no background in programming and collaboration with GIT, it is difficult to find answers to the questions I have. I have just now understood that I should check the issues tab on the IFCOpenShell github page, as in my mind those 2 terms (IFCOpenShell and Bonsai) are 2 different things, and the documentation seems scarce (again, difficult to understand for someone just starting with IFC and programming).

I will check your tutorials, and am looking forward to future discussions.

    Thank you.

In all honesty, i'm not sure yet. :) It has to pay for itself first. Haven't broke even yet. :)

    Best, Ryan

  • @steverugi thank you very much! Especilly for taking the time and making a video to explain me how to resolve my problem. I haven't been able to get to my computer yesterday, so I will try it later this evening.
@theoryshaw I will send you a message later if I will have problem accessing the tutorials.

I hope in the future I will contribute to the tutorials and documentation like you two do. Thnak you again!
