Mesh Outline Projector - project outlines onto mesh (great for terrains)

Mesh Outline Projector takes the 2D silhouette of objects (when viewed from above) and "stamps" them onto a mesh below, automatically cutting the mesh and applying the source object's material to the projected area. Think of it as a cookie-cutter that works vertically through 3D space.

Caveat, sometimes the outline is not perfect, but you can mess with tolerance, or the triangulation size of the receiving mesh, to get it right.

  • It is an interesting technique. Mostly contours for oulining building is a seperate geometry set apart from survey level of contours.
    Check out this new service which provides geodata in IFC for the Netherlands. It might seem odd but it really has logic converting it to ifc. Needs beter mapping still. IFC 4.4. could do
