[ArchiPack] update for Blender 3.1

edited July 2022 in General

Hi @stephen_l
Great to get your email about the updated 2.5 version of Archipack to Blender 3.1. Could you write a short text about Archipakc for the osarch front page?
OSArch is happy to promote such projects and get it into our newsletter and push it out on our social media. Please mention that it's open source and where it can be purchased.
Maybe you would also like to take this opportunity to check if the wiki page needs an update: https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Archipack
Maybe also mention any plans for integration with BlenderBIM addon-on or other FLOSS projects.
Cheers, Duncan

  • Does the license of Archipack allow code to be used for IfcOpenShell/BlenderBIM?
For example, I really like the wall/slab creation method in Archipack. But would like to see it in BlenderBIM with IFC roundtripping capabilities.

All add-ons to Blender must be GPL compatible - some people don't like this fact but that's how the world is. So the answer to your question is - yes.

Blender’s Python API is an integral part of the software, used to define the user interface or develop tools for example. The GNU GPL license therefore requires that such scripts (if published) are being shared under a GPL compatible license. You are free to sell such scripts, but the sales then is restricted to the download service itself. Your customers will receive the script under the same license (GPL), with the same free conditions as everyone has for Blender.
