BlenderBim - background mesh projection

BlenderBim & IfcOpenshell still have a kind of messy projection of tessellation when it comes to background meshes,
For instance I have a topography of a site and in plan where it goes through the garden it looks like this:

And complex geometry looks like this:

Does anyone know if there any way to, besides using a fill region (which is what I do atm) to get a clean representation out of this kind of Geometry?

seems like a no brainer but practically in parallel with that,
Is there a strategy/ way for for getting out a cleaner mesh / representation when printing to 2d?
