Looking for web developer with frontend expertise for Bonsai web UI

Hey all - the Bonsai web UI which made its debut in the last release cycle has a lot of potential, but it's important to get it right in terms of UI. I have enough of experience in web dev to know that good, flexible, modular web frontend coding is hard, especially when needing to interface with potentially complex elements like our gantt charts and data-heavy tables. I'm afraid of going too far with a "slapped-together UI" that will mean further work down the line.

Does anybody here have professional experience in frontend development? This naturally means HTML, CSS, JS.

I have some experience with typescript using that open and speckle-viewer, I'd be happy to contribute, but I'm not a professional either

  • Hi! 👋
I'm a professional software engineer with quite a bit of front-end (and web in general) experience. So far I only had a little time to take a look at the current state of the UI, so I don't have a proper grasp on it's current / expected capabilities yet, but I would be interested in helping with this part.

  • Hey @RaphaëlVouilloz thanks for your offer! In this case I think it's better for someone with a professional background in software engineering especially around the early stages - it would help set a good example for the rest of us further down the line.

@isti115 that's fantastic! I'd be happy to do a screenshare and give you a tour both codewise and featurewise if you're interested. I'm in the Sydney timezone and you can ping me anytime in the chatroom.

@Moult Sorry for seemingly disappearing for the last week, it's been pretty busy in terms of work and personal life as well at the same time, but I'm still really interested in this project. (I've also managed to get a bit more familiar with Bonsai in the meantime.) Hopefully I'll be able to participate in the offered session next week, I'll ping you in the Matrix room! (I have initially planned on following the topics there, but since then I've seen that there's much more going on, than what I would have a chance to keeping track of, so I guess that I'll just occasionally drop in instead.)

  • @isti115 no worries at all! It's a pretty active community. Ping me anytime in Matrix.
