Would Blender having native NURBS or Solid geometry help Bonsai in any way?

There have been talks about improving Blender NURBS or Solid geometry capabilities recently, some as far as 3 years ago, other more recent, like last month GSOC proposal to improve the surface datablocks.

Would Blender having builtin native robust NURBS or Solid modeling kernel help Bonsai in any way?

On the positive side:

  • It could do part of the heavy lifting of geometry calculations
  • It could take care of just the meshing/representation side
  • Better native modelling tools
  • Potentially less code to maintain
  • Possible integration with Geometry Nodes for parametric modelling

On the negative side:

  • It would mean we depend more on Blender
  • IFCOpenShell use outside Blender would require to either require including Blender (or some library), or maintain a separate but compatible "engine"
  • It would probably take a while for it to be mature enough
  • Less control over the codebase or development direction
