Canceled Revit Subscription - need help with future file translations to .ifc
I just cancelled my Revit subscription--now 10 years of past projects are locked away...grr.
...
I'm sure there will be times when I need to translate a Revit file to .IFC.
Is there anyone in the community that I could ping on an infrequent basis that could help translate a revit file to .IFC?
I can pay you for your time.
...
Feel free to email at [email protected], if you'd rather not say anything here.
Thank you kindly, Ryan

Bold move!
Good luck!
For the time being my work provides me with a Revit license, which is not needed for my work :) Till they revoke the license, I can help you with that.
@theoryshaw
bravo!
soon you'll see people selling .rvt to .ifc service
..like those converting cassette, vynil or cd to digital and cloud ;)
haha.. yes.
You can export to IFC without a license in demo mode. Also there are rvt readers, even free, and Speckle can send streams in demo mode.
Interesting. Never heard of this before.
Since Revit 2025 you can also change export settings without restarting the model and export older versions. Before you had to have all versions of Revit installed.
The same goes for ArchiCAD but you have to use "Merge to" an empty IFC file, preferable created using Bonsai.
I need more info ....
AFAIK for Speckle, you need someone with a Revit + Speckle Connector that can upload the file to Speckle, then you can load down the Project into Blender via the Speckle Connector.
Like with DWG, ODA "reengineered" RVT and created libraries that ODA members or participants can license. Therefore I have RVT/RFA importers in my Vectorworks or Bricscad. At the beginning that was far from usable, later far from lossless, but I had no real need to test these again for a few years - may do again.
OK, ODA's Revit libraries meanwhile work pretty good VW and Bricscad.
While in VW I get only Meshes and the internal organization is cumbersome. In Bricscad I get Solids, BIM Structure and editable BIM Objects. IFC export is better in Bricscad anyway.
I only had Revit's own Demo Files to test and am not sure about the quality of the RVTs itself. Like IFC Classing and if it makes sense to pack nearly everything in Blocks, even if only used for one instance (?)
You do not somebody else to export to Speckle since you can run it i Revit and ArchCAD demo mode. All you need are the original models.
This is right. It is called 'Viewer Mode' nowdays.

The catch might be that you are not allowed to edit the file and I think this means editing some of the IFC export options. It should work with the default Revit IFC export options.
I think @theoryshaw needs someone with revit license to:
those methods suggested above are maybe viewer only?
I'd like to provide that kind of service myself, if it wasn't for the cost of the license..
another option (I haven't tested it) by ACCA software:

I had a read of the adesk link above, has anyone tried exporting an IFC from revit demo? I have about 12 rvt files to convert, so I am keen to hear if it is worth trying myself :)
You can change the IFC export settings in viewer mode but you might need to reopen the model.
@Nigel @steverugi
Yes, I can confirm that I exported IFC file from a Revit model using just the Revit Viewer (it is not called demo mode anymore) without having a valid subscription. It is important to not start the default 'Revit' (as that one does not start up without subscription), but to start 'Revit Viewer' from the window start menu.
I was able to open older file that Revit needed to upgrade to the current version, switch to 3D view and export to IFC, selecting one of the predefined settings.
I was also able to export existing sheets to PDF.
When I tried to change some IFC export settings, the export did not happen as you can not edit the file before exporting. I am not sure which IFC export settings are considered as editing the file. I did not try re-opening Revir Viewer as @Max is proposing, so it might be possible.
