Looking for Desing-Builders who Work with FreeCAD

We are generating build documentation for the Seed Eco-Home 2 - https://wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Seed_Home_v2. We're looking to pay design-builders who use FreeCAD and are capable of generating design detail and build instructions for the detail. We use a panelized construction system that allows people without build experience to build their own house. You can see the vision of the project here - https://wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/OBI_Kickstarter_Video We are looking for someone with build experience in light frame construction so that they can produce detail optimized for buildability - ease and speed - keeping the modular nature in mind as a feature that allows for rapid, swarm builds. If you are familiar with construction, architecture, and FreeCAD - we'd like to hear from you. We are looking for design details build instructions, working within FreeCAD files. Email me at info at opensourceecology dot org, or respond here.

Great to have a real project to see the whole workflow and deliverables.

BTW, was there previous OSE projects with all deliberables for demonstration ? :D

    Thanks!

    p.s.
Would the model, drawings etc. accessible by public ?

  • All work generated would be public and in the open source domain. Not sure what you are asking - is it about prior prototypes built? See https://wiki.opensourceecology.org/wiki/Genealogies

I think this could be of interest for @yorik @theoryshaw https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=User:Theoryshaw They have worked with technical details workflows.

  • Sounds exciting. What do you mean by "design-builders", what payment is involved and what are the aims for fulfilling the many different national and international building regulations?

  • Design-builders means architects who also engage hands-on in the actual builds. We typically associate the design-builder's work product with improved buildability from the ease/speed perspective. Payment would depend on the task and scope, depending on who is interested. The aims are to adhere to IRC at this time, which we go by in the USA.

  • Thanks @bitacovir for the ping.
Hi Marcin, we've hashed out a unique detailing workflow over the years. See http://openingdetail.com/ for some examples.
We basically use Freecad/Revit, and now BlenderBIM to roundtrip large scale details via IFC.
Here's a few of our past open source projects.
    Will ping you via email.
    Best, Ryan

I'd really encourage people to use this thread to see how we as a community can help this project. Private emails are so ... private.

@marcin_ose & @theoryshaw please let us know if you might be working together. I think we could probably organize some projects around supporting the workflow. OpeningDesign has the perfect skill set regarding software.

    @bitacovir what about you?

@marcin_ose I'd like to rename this thread "FreeCAD documentation for the Seed Eco-Home 2" if that's okay.

I'd like to help where I can ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/duncanlithgow/ ) . My expertise would be in design to manage water & moisture and the thermal envelope. I also have a little experience with collaborative design. How about the people who are interested maybe finding a time and we can all get an introduction to the project? Would that suit you?

@duncan Yes. I could, but right now I'm starting in a position in an University. Therefore, I don't know how much time I'll have for other jobs. But, it is fine if we can address paid jobs to FreeCAD and BlenderBIM developers to support their work.
Also, I think, it is a good idea to offer voluntary work from our community. This is an Open Source project after all.
@marcin_ose If you need technical consulting feel free to ask to this community.

  • @bitacovir congrats on the new job. I agree that this project by @marcin_ose is a good match if we can find the resources.

  • @theoryshaw @yorik & @marcin_ose released a public video of a meeting they held discussing a libre / opensource toolchain for design.
