BB: roundtripping rebar

edited March 2022 in General

I got Test 1 to roundtrip, preserving the 'bevel curve', but Test 2 does not.
Obviously, i'm missing something. Any clues?

  • I wasn't able to have success editing either and exporting successfully but It seems there are two kinds of curves to generate the rebar, the one that works looks like it is a "path" and the one that doesn't looks like a bezier, it's the only difference I could gleam

  • yes, 'path' might be the answer. Thanks! will test too.

  • Yeah, still can't figure out how to recreate a roundtrippable rebar object from scratch in BB.
Seems like it's driven by properties, but not sure how to recreate these from scratch.

  • Any curve object with a bevel radius will now export as a swept disk solid. This typically applies to rebar, but also applies to things like cables or piping.

Note that the underlying curve will be treated as a polygonal line, so no smooth bezier falloffs - sharp angles everywhere. I guess now we need to improve the QoL by building filleting and turning tools.
