Tips for connecting elements without distorting them

Hi there, I want to join two elements of the same type that my modeller extracts as two separate entities.
I tried to select them and press CTRL+J to join them but the result is not appropriate because it's somehow distorted (look at the screenshot). How can I do this the right way?
