Simple add-on to subdivide at cursor and then auto 'grab'.

Subdivides selected edges with new vertex positioned closest to mouse cursor
Automatically enters grab mode after subdivision for immediate positioning
Adds menu entry in Edit Mode > Edge menu with separator

You can now create the vertex without having to select the edge first.
