Can BonsaiBIM create curved walls?

Comments

  • Parametric curved walls? No.

You can create a standard Blender mesh in any shape you want, and then assign it as an IfcWall. i.e. loft a profile along a curve. It won't be easy/possible to reshape after the fact though.

Another cheat is to make a slab, then using the cad like tools, edit the outline and bevel corners to make an approximation of a curve. Then, using the wall tool, double click the slab and Bonsai will create many walls segments to approximate a curved wall. This is going to be pretty bad from a performance point of view if overdone.

the closest you get to a curved wall, along with @sjb007 's advice, could be:
    1. create a profile mimicking the footprint of the wall and extrude it into the z axis.
    2. create a wall using Horizontal Layer and leverage the 3 point arc in CAD tool, this "preserves" the construction of the geometry

  • @steverugi Cool! I always forget about that three point curve tool. The one negative with it is that it does make you responsible for maintaining the consistent thickness of the wall.
