  • I know that model! :)

  • @sjb007 yes relative to one another, mostly debugging Windows-specific bugs. @theoryshaw indeed!

OK, tried it out even though I'm not the target demographic. I have one weedy personal model, but it certainly feels fast. That cached second opening! O_o I tried to blink but I missed it! The sectioning tool is so, so smoooooth too.

I noticed on the distance measuring tool I got garbled text on the line:

If I'm understanding what I'm seeing, the actual line length is overlaid by the delta in the orthogonal axis. Looks like some collision avoidance is needed for the text boxes.
EDIT: Well I just tried adding Ryan's Highland Haven which was always a bit of a torture test on my circa 2018 laptop in Blender. OK, the first process needed a progress bar, but was done in a short time. The cached opening is instantaneous, and I can section and rotate the whole thing at 60 fps. Very cool.

exciting, awesome work, thank you! can't wait for the mac build. setting up a VM with Linux to see if it's usable with this setup.

Thank you @Moult , nice interface and extremely fast, hopefully query and spreadsheet will be available soon :)
georeferencing seems to be working OK, multiple models pop up properly

one question: loading an .ifc model it creates a .view copy, if the original .ifc is edited how to load the updated one? is there any 'refresh' button?
for now I just delete the .view file to force it
    very much appreciated

  • I see Bonsai Viewer saves .ifcfed file format. I have never heard of it. Is this Bonsai Viewer native format or does this file format already exist?
Is it related to IFC schema?

Is the initial loading of the IFC supposed to be faster than Bonsai? In most cases it is quite fast but I encountered a file, which takes 5 minutes to parse in Bonsai Viewer and it opens in 4 minute in Bonsai. Open IFC Viewer or BIMVision take less than minute to open this file.
The consequent cached opening is lightning fast.

Should such case be reported to GitHub?

EDIT: Running Bonsai Viewer on Linux

  • @steverugi no refresh button unfortunately for local files (just manually delete). For cloud files there is a sync from cloud.

@semhustej it should always be faster than Bonsai, unless you've changed the geometry kernel. Unless it's to do with swept disk solids (e.g. rebar) where Bonsai has optimisations. When you say parse, there are two steps to loading: 1) a parse step, where you should see the progress bar present, but without a percentage, and 2) a geometry step, where the progress bar shows a percentage. Which step is slow, or is it combined?

  • @Moult
The slow part is part 2 with progress bar with percentage. It is possible to see the building being built during this slow part. The percentage slowly rises, there is no obvious % where it would get halted.
There are no rebars in the model. There is IfcRailing in the model with round shape though (the vertical parts), but it's just a 4 story building.. When watching the building being built in viewer, the railing is flickering a lot.
I am using the default kernel both in Bonsai and Viewer.

  • I have good and bad news:

just having some fun of course, I love the viewer! (But please do address major issues in current Bonsai)
