News from the OSArch wiki - our knowledge repository for the community

I'm going to post here every now and then when something interesting happens on the wiki. Maybe this will inspire others to add their knowledge (or even just their workflow notes and experiences)
I'm always happy to answer questions on how the wiki works and how it's organized.

Todays news is a new page I've made
    https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=A_Carbon_Tool_(ACT)
This is a cool tool which does carbon calculation from data collected by the great Speckle project.

Working on pages like this one are part of generally improving resources for solving the climate crisis with libre / opensource software. I'm trying to organize the knowledge from this page @Cyril started a while ago https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Building_Energy_Modeling_(BEM) which now also is a whole category https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Category:Building_Energy_Modeling_(BEM)

If you think we need to address the climate crisis and want to help me find relevant ways for OSArch to do that - let me know.
(you'll need to copy the links - this forum doesn't like brackets in URLs)

I've just been looking at some stats on the wiki after we discussed at the recent steering committee meeting about spending some time doing projects focused on wiki content.

So I found some stats - there are several ways to think about these stats

    • are they the most popular or most edited pages?
    • are they what people are interested in or just what we're pushing on our other media?

One way or the other I think they also highlight some obvious places for improvement

    • our software directory is popular - but is it as good as it could be? ( I think there are better solutions ). The biggest problem I see is a lack of a good category structure.
    • Our pages about BlenderBIM, IFC (in general), IfcOpenShell & Revit for OpenBIM deserve attention - people seem to be reading them. I think we need a discussion about how to organize these topics. The system of banners and categories I have made is okay, but a 'book' structure would be better and easier to keep well organized. I started making a book structure for FreeCAD as an example.

Here are all the pages since August 2021 with more than 1000 visitors:
(if someone know how to set the date range that would be ever better)

IFC related pages in english on our wiki are now sub pages of https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=Industry_Foundation_Classes_(IFC)

  • @duncan
These two pages are sadly very outdated :

    • /index.php?title=BlenderBIM_Add-on_Changelog
    • /index.php?title=BlenderBIM_Add-on_Roadmap

Do you have a suggestion for making an improvement? Is there a more up-to date source of info somewhere?
If the info is now somewhere else then we should delete/redirect those two pages and refer instead to a better URL.

I've redirected/moved all BlenderBIM add-on pages to become sub pages of https://wiki.osarch.org/index.php?title=BlenderBIM_Add-on

Dion posts these changelog summaries to the Blenderbim release thread on the forum, so this should link there: https://community.osarch.org/discussion/26/blenderbim-add-on-new-release

There is also a detailed commit changelog in the repository: https://github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/commits/v0.7.0/src/blenderbim

Any chance you could update the wiki? I've spent too many hours on the wiki today. Maybe a mention/link on the main page and just links on those two specific pages.
