ifcTimeSeries in blenderBim?

Hello!
I'm very new to blenderBim, and I was wondering if it was possible to add time series entities in blenderBim?
I looked for it, but didn't find it.

Thanks a lot,
Arnaud

    Hi @acandael welcome.
From my understanding I don't think there's a UI, in BB, for adding ifcTimeSeries entities to properties yet.
As i understand it, there is however, functionality in IfcOpenShell for adding these entities. So it's halfway there. :)

  • There isn't yet any IfcOpenShell API function written for it. Would you be able to describe your usecase in more detail? That would help us figure out how best to implement it.

  • Hello, thank you for your answers!

I don't really have a precise use case to be honest, I'm basically just exploring a bit IFC and its possibilities for storing sensor data, and I'm using BB for that :)
I'm working on a project where some structural elements are being monitored by several sensors (T°, strain, displacement), and I'm investigating how a BIM model can act as a sort of Digital Twin, or at least as a central 'database' for coupling structural analysis tools (such as FEM modelling, etc.). The global framework revolves around facility management (in this case structures such as tunnels, bridges) and life cycle management.

Question I ask myself among others: should sensor data be stored directly in the BIM model (via TimeSeries(?)) or should I just link data?

    Best regards,
    Arnaud

    Hi @acandael,
I wonder how your project is going on? Did you decide on using IFC TimeSeries or a linked data approach?
I'm working on a similar project to evaluate the possibility of capturing real-time data of HVAC elements in an IFC file for facility management purposes.
I tried feeding the IFC file with data from one day of a sensor through Pset_SensorHistory with the help of IfcOpenShell. I could add the data sequence to the IFC file, but the final file wasn't easy to work with. Different IFC openers crashed when I opened it, and even VS Code couldn't handle it, although the file size was less than 100 MB.
Did you find a better method for working with sequences of data?

    Best regards,
    Amin
