CAD file web viewer and markup tool with Nextcloud integration

edited February 2023 in General

This looks very promising for a FLOSS web based CAD file viewer.
https://www.cadviewer.com/

If you need CAD viewing and API driven dynamic interaction with graphics on any platform either on Premise or on a Cloud Installation, CADViewer is your choice!
CADViewer is a vector graphics library using proven W3C browser technologies SVG and JavaScript to display and manipulate CAD Drawings. CADViewer therefore integrates with All browsers on All Platforms, including the mobile platforms Android and iOS.
CADViewer supports: AutoCAD DWG/DXF/DWF, Bentley MicroStation DGN/PCF, Adobe Acrobat PDF (optimized for vector graphics content) and a large number of speciality bitmaps including TIFF, see our full Supported Formats List .

It also supports Inkscape SVG layers.

The version on github for integration with Nextcloud is licensed AGPL-3

Anyone tried this out or want to set it up in their Nextcloud?

I see in my Nextcloud logs that it needs the OCA library - so in theory it might be able to run with LibreDWG.

This post is related to PDF markup / redlining tools and standard

  • Really cool stuff, however I always wonder if they guarantee a 99,99999%SLA with Cloud native apps.

Well, it's not up to them to install it on your server ... this is about their Nextcloud integration.
We discussed here the importance of a Cross platform PDF annotation tool and this tool does a bunch of other formats as well. With Nextcloud integration this is really making Nextcloud look like a valuable CDE.

    Does this look workable @theoryshaw @Jesusbill ?

I'm seriously wondering if we should try and start a collaboration with a good Nextcloud host to offer some of these extensions and market the collection as the start of an OpenBIM CDE. If we choose a European company with experience applying for EU funding this could really help move such a project forward. I'm wondering about contacting https://thegood.cloud/ who I have heard are good Nextcloud hosters with a solid FLOSS grounding. Any thoughts? Would OpeningDesign be up for being a commercial partner for such an adventure?

  • I will have a look at it later and test on my instance and give some feedback here. Thanks for sharing!

  • Would be awesome to have a front-page news article advertising this!

I've written to them. We can see what happens.

    Hi there
My name is Duncan and I'm an organiser in OSArch - Open Source in AEC (osarch.org).
I only recently found your project after I read about the Nextcloud integration. The OSArch community would love to learn more about what the project can do, what parts are FLOSS and what are not, current integration and what's planned (maybe OpenProject integration?).
One aspect we're very interested in and curious about is the markup tools. This is something sorely missing in other FLOSS / CAD projects. Are there any standards implemented in the markup system? I heard about attempts years ago, but nothing since.
It would be great if you drop into our forum for a chat (https://community.osarch.org/discussion/1342/cad-file-web-viewer-and-markup-tool-with-nextcloud-integration) and maybe from there we could write an article for our network and add the project to our wiki. https://wiki.osarch.org
    Regards, Duncan

    Hey Guys,
In my instance it does not work well until now. Probably because I have an outdated instance (I am currently updating it to 23.0.5). I have tried on different browser as well

[Edit] Even after updating it to 23.0.12, still not working.

  • @victorklixto I'm surprised you got that far since the current version of Nextcloud is 25 and this is a quite new app. I'd love to hear if you get it working, I still haven't had time to dig into it and it seemed to make my database angry last time...

Hi @duncan, I did not realise that my Nextcloud was that outdated … I upgraded it to 25, and now it is working, but I am not sure if it is a proprietary product, since you have to get a license . If that the case, I will not keep it https://cadviewer.com/pricing/ ,
    hehe.

  • I don't understand what part of CADViewer is open source. It looks like a proprietary software, and only an addon to work with a third software is open source...

  • I have deleted it. At least it served to keep my Nextcloud update. Cheers! @duncan and @bitacovir
