Soliciting Funds: Visualize/Print walls/slabs/coverings/etc layers in BlenderBIM & FreeCAD
This project is looking to solicit the funds to help develop the ability to visualize the layers that make up a 'layered' wall/slab/covering/etc in BlenderBIM & FreeCAD -- on both the screen and printed svg. The lion's share of this work will be done with C++ in IFCopenShell.
This has been discussed in the following locations.
- https://community.osarch.org/discussion/comment/15479/

As you can see in the links above, there has already been some work in the regard. With this project, we hope to build off this initial work.

For every dollar raised @osarch will match it.
Just a heads up. On the following 'bounty', we'll need to push the current funds ($1,852.46 USD) back to the general OSArch pool after November 13, 2024--As there hasn't been any takers on this issue for a year, at that point.

hi @theoryshaw
how much is needed to make it to the budgeted amount? I couldn't find the needed amount to fully develop this nice feature, thanks
this is a good question. I have put the question out to some of the core developers to get a more realist budget number for this scope. That way, we can have more confidence in our fundraising goals.
Not sure what difference from the current Arch_MultiMaterial does it expect for FreeCAD?
It should be 'native-IFC' and code shared for both 'BBIM' and FreeCAD ? ('This roughly corresponds to a combination of IfcMaterialLayerSet and IfcMaterialLayer' ? - https://wiki.freecad.org/Arch_MultiMaterial/en#Relation_to_IFC)
Thanks.
Arch_MultiMaterial

We could re-direct the money towards some automation for assigning, calculating, and getting quantities, cost, and carbon data out of an IFC and into a spreadsheet. Set the data free :)
as much as I love the idea of having more resources to take Bonsai to the next level with quantities & co I think having the 'multilayer' visualization of walls (like in the image above) can be a very attractive feature for designers
if we are not too far from the needed funds to implement it of course
I agree completely, I was thinking if we cannot get someone to do the layered walls thing then we may find someone to help with something else that I wanted today ;)
FreeCAD's multilayer wall is only a part of the puzzle. The complexity lies in the priority based joining. I'll take responsibility for this and see what I can achieve this release cycle.
Curious to learn what are the features being conceived. I am developing in FreeCAD different from the Arch_Multi-Material approach. Being ignorant on IFC, would like to learn more ideas here. Thanks :)
Thanks @Andyro, btw, for the recent $400 infusion! OSArch just matched it!
Hope this will arrive next release. Made a small donation. 👍🏻
Took a stab at creating a mockup to brainstorm how wall/floor layers may work. Discussed here:

Dear Steering Committee ( @CadGiru @Jesusbill @dimitar @Moult @brunopostle),
Unfortunately, it's been a year since this project was announced. Per the following blurb on the project site, we indicated that if there were no submissions in a year, the allocated funds would go back to OSArch's general fund pool.
Considering there appears to be some movement on this project, any objections if we extend this deadline out 6 more months?
Hi @theoryshaw
Yes please let's extend it
Any chance to know how much money/time would be required to have this feature reach the end line?
This project is now closed! Thank you to @Moult and the following financial contributors.
