Italy open source AEC meetup

edited March 3 in General

Hi, following this thread, i would like to see if anybody is interested in an in-person event near Venice in Italy.
For now it is just an idea but we'll see who is interested and let's organize together!
Topics could be everything related, but i would say BBim, IFC and IOS.
For the first time, it could only be only a simple meeting and we'll see what happens!
Cheers! :-)

EDIT: Now this thread referes also to anybody has connections with Italy (lives here, works here, etc ...) and i think we'll meet remotely :-)

I'm italian but live and work in Ghana
but I will be interested in joining a "BIM user group IT", if possible I could even adjust my visit to Italy accordingly (June/July seems likely)

  • Since we are momentarily few and far apart, we might start out with a web meeting?

@tlang yeah, it's ok for me! Let's see in the meantime if there are more people that want to join!

  • Ok, so me and @carlopav were thinking about doing a web meeting on saturday 2 march at 14.30 for about 1 hour...could this work also for the others?
It is just an idea so please write here if you eant to propose something...
As the first meeting, it could be an informal meeting, so just presentations and talking, but again if there is a subject that we want to discuss, just write it here!
    @tlang @Bimlooser @steverugi @Jesusbill

  • Nice! So Saturday 2 march at 14.30 fixed! Thanks to everybody for the quick reply!
Of course, the meeting will be open, so everybody can join.
I think we can use the OSArch room, i'll try that but i'll post the link here anyway.

  • @tlang do you want to join?

  • @Massimo, so sorry I've missed the meeting, I was really looking forward to it. I was distracted by this weekend's events and forgot to connect. Did you agree on a next meeting?

@tlang hey, no problem, we'll meet next time, i think there will be more meeting like this in the future :-)
The first meeting was inspiring, we are on the same page i think. I try to resume the main topics we have discussed:

    • BlenderBIM can be used to learn the IFC schema and this is one of its main pros
    • we can create learning classes/courses in order to help people learn BlenderBIM (also in italian). It could be also certified courses and @Bimlooser knows people that can help with this
    • there could be also university lessons and on this @carlopav can see if there are possibilities
    • during these meetings, we can discuss about a specific topic and help each others
    • we can realize short videos that explains how to solve real work problems @steverugi can try to do the first one and we'll see ...

In general, there isn't already a "predefined path" so we can decide every time and we can adapt with the needs.
This is a new experience (at least for me) so we can learn during the way :-)
Next meeting could be in about a month i guess so stay tuned!

  • I would be very interested in obtaining BIM specialist or coordinator certification using preferably FOSS software. As far as I've found all available courses are tied to software houses.

    Massimo
  • Hi, I’ve registered now. I am a PhD student and I would like to follow your next meeting, even in presence if not too far away. Is it still possible to be added to the Slack channel?

    carlopavMassimotlang
  • @andreab welcome, nice to have you here!
I think we will meet only remotely also next time because we are from different areas (Rome, Treviso, Tuscany, ...); follow this thread for updates!
There isn't a slack channel btw, i suggest you to join to the osarch matrix chat (you can find the link in the osarch homepage)... if you want to ask something you can do it there, we are in that chat so just ping somebody...
Don't hesitate to ask if something is unclear... cheers! :-)

  • Hi, I'm a building engineer who works in the public sector in Rome, I love the world of open source and writing code. I would like to join the group :)

    @SimoneM welcome aboard! :-)
Follow this thread for updates about next meeting!
In the meanwhile, as i saw that you joined the community today, i suggest you to explore the forum and the softwares :-)

  • @andreab The slack channel on the BIM User Group Italy is a closed channel, to gain access you need to be invited by existing members. You can search online for existing members and ask for an introduction. I prefer this open community such as Osarch with free and open source objectives.
